The dilapidated wooden bridge built in 1987 had to be replaced, so a new concept was designed in steel in consultation with the Schwyz Office of Culture. The construction of the new bridge with its powerful pillars is reminiscent of the drawbridges typical of castle moats. But the railing infill with its stainless steel wire mesh still gives it a pleasant lightness.
The path covering chosen in hard sandstone picks up on the original materiality of the wooden bridge in its dimension and finds a middle ground between the builder’s request for a durable covering and the requirements of the Agency for the Protection of Cultural Property for a covering typical of drawbridges.
