The St Franziskus church was built by Josef Steiner between 1923 and 1924. Its architecture is based on early Christian Romanesque buildings. Such traditional influences are still visible on its exterior.
The exterior of the free-standing building, located slightly above the Aa Valley, has been almost completely preserved. Its interior underwent gentle renovations in 1966 and an organ was installed in 1975, meaning that the church is likely the only largely original religious building by Josef Steiner.
In a preliminary design study used as the basis of the architectural tender submission, the emphasis was placed on maintaining the original substance and, where possible, restoring it.
