Heinrich Bühler-Honegger, born in 1833 as a farmer’s son in Schirmensee/Feldbach, technical manager of the Honegger machine factory in Rüti, National Councillor from 1881-93, took over a modest house on Kempratner Bucht and extended it around 1880/85 into the form of a representative villa. The architect is unknown, but is probably to be sought in the Zurich area (related villa building on the north side of Rüti railway station).

The late classicist building with a tower risalit on the city side and open loggias was heavily altered in the 1960s. The renovation now being carried out will bring the building back closer to its original design.

The renovation and restoration concept provides for repairing some of the damage from the 1967 and 2000 conversions.

In the attic, the original floor plan (with the exception of the staircase) will be restored. Bricked-up original door openings will be reactivated.

The remaining ceiling paintings and stuccowork will be secured and made visible.

The exterior plaster will be renovated. The roof will be re-roofed in natural slate and most of the skylights in the flat-pitched copper roof will be removed. The copper roof is ventilated and re-roofed.

The terrace is dismantled and replaced by a risalite-like structure.
