The objective of the design process is to create a coherent school complex. This new gym is added between the existing school buildings and the Linth River. To minimise the portion of the building appearing above ground, the storey with the locker rooms is built underground.

The striking wooden body that is planned for the new gym will lend the venue a new and unmistakable identity. The shape of the gym is the result of a process that reconciles the aim of reducing the structure to what is strictly necessary in terms of function and design. It also accommodates the regional architectural tradition which is agricultural in nature.

The choice of materials (the base with a solid construction, the gym in wood) is based on these considerations.
